French dressing is a classic vinaigrette made with oil, vinegar, mustard, and seasonings. Mary Berry’s version balances the tanginess of vinegar with the smoothness of olive oil, creating a light and flavorful dressing suitable for a variety of salads.
Peel and finely mince or crush the garlic using a garlic crusher or grater. Set aside.
In a small mixing bowl or jar, combine the olive oil, white wine vinegar, Dijon mustard, caster sugar, and garlic.
Add salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste. Whisk the mixture until fully combined, or shake the jar with the lid tightly closed.
Taste the dressing and adjust the seasoning or acidity by adding more vinegar, sugar, or salt if needed.
Drizzle the dressing over your favorite salad and toss well to coat. If not used immediately, store in the refrigerator in a sealed jar for up to 1 week. Shake well before each use.
