Jamie Oliver’s Hamburger is a simple yet delicious take on the classic beef burger. It features a perfectly seasoned beef patty, cooked to juicy perfection, and topped with fresh ingredients like lettuce, tomato, cheese, and pickles. The result is a burger that’s bursting with flavor and texture, all while being easy to make.
For the Burger Patties:
500g ground beef (80% lean, 20% fat for best results)
1 small onion, finely grated
1 tsp smoked paprika
1 tsp mustard (Dijon or English)
Salt and black pepper, to taste
1 tbsp olive oil (for cooking)
For the Toppings and Assembly:
4 burger buns (brioche or sesame seed buns work well)
4 slices cheddar cheese (optional)
1 large tomato, sliced
1 small red onion, thinly sliced
Lettuce leaves
Pickles (optional)
Ketchup, mayo, or your favorite sauce
Step 1: Prepare the Burger Patties
In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, grated onion, smoked paprika, mustard, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until just combined—avoid overmixing to keep the patties tender. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into patties, slightly larger than the buns (they’ll shrink while cooking).
Step 2: Cook the Patties
Heat olive oil in a frying pan or grill over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for 3-4 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or longer if you prefer them well-done. If adding cheese, place a slice on each patty during the last minute of cooking and cover the pan to melt it.
Step 3: Toast the Buns
Slice the burger buns in half and toast them lightly in the pan or on the grill for 1-2 minutes until golden.
Step 4: Assemble the Burgers
Spread your favorite sauce on the bottom half of each bun. Layer with lettuce, tomato slices, red onion, and pickles. Place the cooked patty on top, then add the top half of the bun.
Step 5: Serve and Enjoy
Serve the burgers immediately with a side of fries, salad, or coleslaw.
